This is the last year for my favorite Christmas tradition: Osborne Family Spectacle of Dancing Lights located in Hollywood studios. A lot of people love the lights but it has always been my Christmas while here in Florida.
Five years ago in November I started becoming "homesick" and missed my family. I knew moving down to Florida I would not be with my family on Christmas but I didn't realize how hard it would hit me not being home for the holidays. I remember the week of Christmas, I was depressed and everyone was working, I decided to go spend the evening at the Osborne Lights in Hollywood studios to entertain myself. As I sat on the steps near the canopy, my homesickness drifted away.... I felt the Christmas sprit for the first time that season.
The following year as I realized I would be alone for Christmas again, I spent as much time at the Osborne Lights as possible. This year all my friends and family went home for Christmas. I spent Christmas Eve and Christmas day at the lights in Hollywood Studios as it became the only holiday family I came to know in Florida.
As the years went on, I have not felt so alone at Christmas though each year I have not been with my family. I knew the lights would be there for me if I needed Holiday cheer.
Last year, though both working, my boyfriends and I spent our first Christmas together. I didn't rely on the lights for the feeling of Christmas! I started forming my own Florida family.
A lot of people are sad it is the last year as it is tradition and amazing. However, to me it has been part of my holiday family. I hope one day the lights will be able to spread Holiday cheer again! For me, I will always remember how they helped me stay and continue to live in Florida. They will always mean so much to me!
Soon I will say farewell to the lights. Thanks for bringing me holiday cheer and being part of my holiday family. I will miss you, Osborne Lights! Until we meet again!
