We have cruised on six cruises so far. Each time we have choose "guarantee" cabin which means you are only reserving a particular category, not a specific cabin. We do this cause the price is usually cheaper than picking your own cabin.
For the budget conscious, the advantage outweighs the disadvantage of the location. We are more concerned with getting the most bang for our buck than location on the ship. The advantage of guarantee is that you will be more likely to get an upgrade than someone who has booked a specific cabin since the cruise line will not have to ask you before the upgrade.
With this upcoming cruise we booked our guarantee interior stateroom and watched the price. Today, we noticed that ocean view staterooms were the same price as our interior stateroom ($205). We called our Carnival Cruise rep and asked for an upgrade. After a few moments of silence and clicking of the key board, we were told we are eligible of the upgrade free of charge!
Can't wait to sail in our complimentary upgraded room.
