Walt's World Wednesday - Pressed Penny

I have never been a huge fan of the Penny Press machines. Placing 51 cent into a machine to get a decorative penny that has no use nor big enough to display and probably will get lost has never been an interest of mine. However, many people feel different.

So this Wednesday is all about that 51 cent souvenirs...

Press pennies started showing up around 1994 in Disney world. After inserting two quarters and a penny, the penny is pressed against two roller one which has an engraving on it. Out pops a flat penny with a engraving of a favorite ride or character. Disney World now has pressed pennies, Dimes and Quarters.

Locations for Penny Pressed machines are located all throughout Disney World. All resorts, parks, water parks and Disney Spring. Presscoins.com has a entire list of where you can find these cheap souvenirs. Just remember some of the engraving do retire so make sure the coin you want is still present.

If you don't have quarters and pennies, any of the gift shops can make change or if you know you will want to be part of this scavenger hunt go to the bank before your trip and ask for a roll of coins.

Pennies made in 1982 and later were made out of Copper and Zinc. Zinc has been known to leave a streak of sliver in the design. It is recommended to use pennies before 1982.   I have found the shiny pennies also make for the best pennies. Though I can not confirm, I have heard if you put the Penny with the head facing right, you will get a better result. Not completely sure if that is true.

If you can't afford the $25 plush Goofy, this is a cheap souvenirs with your favorite character or ride on it. I do recommend it to anyone with small kids. They find it fascinating and it is cheap to occupy your child.

If Penny Press is a  collectible to you, happy hunting!
